ABOUT ME

Hello! I'm Megan, or Mrs. Bosarge to my students. I am so excited to begin this learning journey with your child. I look forward to getting to know all of you and sharing the exciting things we do in my class. Creating a website is new territory for me, but I wanted to have an outlet to communicate with parents frequently, so I created this as a space to share student work and successes, keep you updated on what we read in class, and even give you some tips on how to connect with your child at home about what they are learning in school!

I've been teaching English since 2014 and have a Master's degree in education from the University of Southern Maine. I taught 8th grade ELA at Brunswick Junior High as a long term sub and spent two years teaching English at Monmouth Academy before coming "home" to MAMS. I have a son, Wesley, who is 3 and a daughter, Claire, who is 5 months old. My husband also teaches English and writes books. Being a very busy person, I believe self care is super important to success which is why I enjoy reading (duh!), running and being outdoors in my spare time. Don't hesitate to ask me any questions...I'm an open book (see what I did there?!).

Merrymeeting is such an incredible team! My colleagues come to work every day with a positive attitude and a sense of humor and really (I mean REALLY) care about kids! That is one of the many reasons I love working at MAMS! I hope your child finds the Merrymeeting team as awesome as I do.

As an English teacher, I believe reading is essential to our personal growth as well as academic learning. I believe all kids can love reading, but some have yet to find the right book. I love to play "matchmaker" with kids and books. Once the reading habit is strong, the foundation for learning is set. We will alternate reading and writing units throughout the year, but devote one day a week ("Fiction Friday"!) to strengthening our reading habits. Students will also be assigned 20 minutes of reading every night for homework, which they will record in a reading log at school. Unless there's an assignment to make up, I rarely assign homework other than reading, as I feel it is THE most important skill. Parents, you are so vital to this! Please help encourage your kids to follow through with nightly reading and ask them about what they are reading, as it will reinforce both the habit as well as the comprehension!

We have a lot of learning goals to tackle this year and I will do my best to keep you informed of everything from what we are reading to upcoming assessments. I am also eager to use this space to celebrate student success and growth, and encourage you all to support student learning at home.

If this webpage does not suffice and you ever need to get in touch with me, the best way to reach me is by email. I check it frequently throughout the day and will do my best respond within 24 hours, if not sooner. My email is bosargem@link75.org

Please come back and check out this page often to see what exciting things are happening in my ELA classroom. I can't wait to begin learning with your child. It's going to be a great year!
